Few bonds in life are more influential than those between a young person and an adult. For Sarah Moore and her mentee Rachel, that is especially true.
When Sarah first became a volunteer mentor with Denver Kids, she simply hoped to be a good role model to Rachel – help with school work, take fun outings, and provide guidance as needed. But as the years passed she and Rachel became a team, sticking together through the good, the bad and the ugly.
Sarah worked patiently with Rachel to overcome the many struggles and obstacles in her life.
Sarah has been a permanent fixture and cheerleader in Rachel’s life ever since, navigating her through student enrollment, attending parent teacher conferences, studying with her, helping her prepare scholarship essays and submit college applications. She even took Rachel on her first plane ride to visit family on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Sarah worked patiently with Rachel to overcome the many struggles and obstacles in her life. Rachel started college at Colorado State University this past year and Sarah continues to be right by her side.
