Rachel HernandezPoverty. Abuse. Neglect. Unstable home environment. These are challenges that would cripple many people. But not Rachel. These setbacks only fueled her forward. Prior to graduating from North High School with a 3.0 GPA, Rachel served as a youth leader at the Boys and Girls Club, a mentor with the Bridge Program, was actively involved in Minds Matter, and Colorado Uplift. “Rachel understands the importance of education as a catalyst to a successful career and better life. She is living proof that, with determination and knowledge and a lot of hard work, one can overcome life’s obstacles,” said her Denver Kids mentor, Sarah Moore. Today, Rachel is a freshman at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
