Following a nine-month search, Denver Kids, Inc. has named Jim Goebelbecker, Ph.D., its new chief executive officer.
Goebelbecker succeeds Mary Hanewall, interim chief operations officer, a post she has held for the last 8 months. Goebelbecker was previously CEO of Boston-based Housing Families, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending family homelessness.
Goebelbecker’s excellence in leadership and his passion for serving vulnerable youth and families will play an integral role in building upon Denver Kids’ 70-year track-record of delivering unparalleled dropout intervention programming to K-12 Denver Public Schools (DPS) students experiencing situations of higher risk. “I am very excited to join the Denver Kids team of talented and compassionate staff dedicated to the educational success of the students we serve,” said Goebelbecker.
“After thorough succession planning and a comprehensive search process, the board is so pleased to have found the perfect person to assume leadership of this incredible organization,” said Billy Brown, chairman of the Denver Kids board of directors. “Jim is deeply passionate about the work we do and I’m confident that he will lead Denver Kids successfully into the future.”
Goebelbecker served as the chief executive officer of Boston-based Housing Families Inc. since 2010. His leadership there was instrumental guiding the agency’s strategic growth, organizational restructuring, and renewed vision. He was also influential in piloting a new groundbreaking eviction protection program to preserve tenancies for some of Massachusetts’ most deserving families as well as expanding their after-school counseling and tutoring program.
